La Mata without a car β beach, shops and public transport
What you can do on foot, how to plan local buses and when a car genuinely makes the stay easier.
A stay in La Mata can work well without a car when your priorities are the beach, walks, local food and an unhurried routine. Sunny La Mata is around 900 metres from the beach, with shops and everyday services nearby.
Easy on foot
- walk to Playa de La Mata and the promenade
- buy everyday groceries nearby
- visit local restaurants, cafΓ©s and ice-cream shops
- explore La Mata and its seafront on foot
- use the seasonal pool without arranging transport
Buses and changing routes
Urban buses connect La Mata with Torrevieja, but line numbers, routes and frequency can change. In 2026 the city presented a new network including links between the centre, bus station and La Mata. Check the latest map and notices on the Torrevieja municipal website.
A car adds flexibility for Elche, Alicante and less accessible beaches, but it is not essential for a relaxed week centred on La Mata. Start with our Alicante Airport transfer guide.
